Pink Floyd live at Carnegie Hall, New York 1972 (Audience Recording) | LDS 061

In May of 1972, Pink Floyd would step into London’s Abbey Road studios for the first recordings of the decade defining release Dark Side of the Moon. During the first half of the year, the group was still touring material from their last two LP’s Meddle and Atom Heart Mother with the 30+ minute opus “Echoes” at the center of these tours. With Gilmour stepping into the band and Barrett soon leaving, Pink Floyd evolved into a very different state between the late 60′s and early 70′s. With a plethora of live material available in the collectors network, the perspective of the sonic transition that takes place with Pink Floyd is a very drastic one between 1971 and 1973. It’s a state in which reflects how their compositional approach and emotional range had changed inside of the dynamic of the group. “Echoes” defines this era well and was a sound years ahead of its time. The live versions are some of the most special Pink Floyd moments ever captured to tape.
New York is a mecca for all cultures and lifestyles and Pink Floyd was accepted into the ranks of their upper echelon with two appearances at the prestigious Carnegie Hall on May 5th and 6th in 1972. The set we are presenting as a FLAC download was captured on the second evening. It’s a very well captured audience stealth recording that’s incomplete but one of the best sounding audience sources from 1972. The band had already premiered Dark Side of the Moon in the beginning of the 1972 in England and was on a creative storm with their live scheduling and new sonic possibilities inside the expanding multi-tracking studio evolution. 1972 was active with touring for Floyd, especially in the first half. First the UK, then Asia, Australia and finally leading up to their 6th full tour of the States, the Carnegie Hall May 1972 recording shows Floyd well oiled and on fire. Most importantly, the recording shows the transformation of the psychedelia dream land that was the first incarnation of the group and into the material that would define Dark Side, Wish You Were Here and the material after it.
This has become one of my favorite Pink Floyd recordings in the last few years and is an experience we hope you have some time for. Full details on the recording have been collected below from various sources online. Trade this freely with fellow Pink Floyd fans, never resale or let individuals / record stores do so.

Don Cherry & George Gruntz Group live in Tunisia and Stuttgart FM Broadcast 1969 | LDS 060
A very special thanks goes out to Dimeadozen.org member woessner for making this recording available. Timeless music that was set free through FM channels and is readily available for the public to study and enjoy. The passing of George Gruntz recently is another reason we are posting this new edition of Love Devotion Surrender, a series that has been in hiatus for over half a year at Sound Colour Vibration.
Don Cherry remains one of the strongest and unique trumpet players of his eras and his inclusion into this heavy ensemble is rich in form. George Gruntz had the same type of legacy when these two would collaborate for live performances in 1969. The FM recording preserved the sets captured in both May and September of 1969 very well, allowing the instruments to breath in a way you don’t get from a lot of the torrents uploaded from pre-70′s era. This is music that speaks to my soul and music we hope speaks to yours.

LDS 059: Soft Machine 09/01/70 BBC Radiophonic Workshop
Huge thanks goes out to Dimadozen.org member propylaen for uploading this extremely rare gem. We are proud to present volume 59 of Love Devotion Surrender with a very special recording made by BBC for the Radiophonic Workshop programs of the Soft Machione. One of our favorite groups with a unique recording unlike anything we have heard before; simply astonishing realities. BBC is an incredible and vital piece of modern music culture and this is further proof that they were covering the best.

Excerpt from Michael King’s book “Wrong Movements”:
‘Analysis Of A Session With Soft Machine’ is a thirty minute programme combining the initial Radiophonic Workshop demonstrations with the Olympic Sound session where ‘Eamonn Andrews’ was recorded with the instruments processed through a VCS3 (Voltage Controlled Synthesizer).
The Olympic Sound session in question was recorded a few days earlier on August 27.

Technically, “1st gen” might not be really appropriate when, as in this case, it’s a copy of an off-the-air recording. But I think it’s sort of become common practice to count generations that way with broadcasts, so that off-the-air = master. This is from a rebroadcast of the “Liederliches” show, where I’ve edited out the segments that come from a later date. Some volume fluctuations near the beginning, which I believe is on all versions – I’ve evened some of it out.

notes:
What you now have in your possesion is quite possibly the greatest live Pink Floyd performance ever captured. CwtAE and FOS are amongst the best renditions I have ever heard. The rest of the show is absolutely stellar as well but CwtAE and FOS steal the show. Gilmour and Rick were exceptional on this night and they’re playing on these two tracks is enough to make you shed a tear.
I am pleased to present to you a speed and pitch corrected version of this event in history. Previously this tape was out of pitch and the speed was a bit slow. I have corrected this. And now for the disclaimer… I do all my speed and pitch adjustment by ear only and not with the use of comparing against other shows or individual tracks or any crazy tools. I do not guarantee the speed or pitch to be completely accurate, this is basically my interpretation of the way I have always wanted this show to sound. No remastering was applied to this at all (as if it needs any).
I would also like to give a shout out to Mr. Simpson for originally transferring this gem from the Hi-Fi source and clarifying the lineage for us. This was previously circulating under 1st gen Hi-Fi but has been determined not to be the case. The master tape had been lost soon after the event and the taper was left with only his 1st gen backup which all other versions of this show come from in one way or another.
I sincerely advocate the use of substances while listening to this ;-)
Enjoy!!!

LDS 048: James Brown live in Kinshasha, Zaire, Africa September 1974 (SBD)
Enjoy this unofficial soundboard recording with the entire full concert, unlike many of the edits that appear on the multi-tracked professional releases. This source contains some hiss as it is a raw soundboard recording, but the recording is timeless on all levels, a must have for any collector of rare tapes. This is James Brown spreading his message to thousands in Africa and is one of many stellar moments in his 40+ year legacy. The video that was released from this performance is unreal and can be found on the Soul Power DVD with performances from James Brown, Celia Cruz and the Fania All-Stars, B.B. King, Miriam Makeba, The Spinners, Bill Withers, and Manu Dibango. The footage was included around the famous Rumble in the Jungle heavyweight boxing championship match between Muhammad Ali and George Foreman held in Africa a month after this concert. James Brown is one of our favorites and his bands were always in top form, something that you hear in this show from start to finish. When James Brown tells the horns go, the horn lines lock in so fast that it becomes surreal. He commands his band and interacts with the audience, sings and dances all at the same time in a way nobody has been able to come to close to. A true pioneer.

*These recordings are not released officially and we suggest that you don’t not buy suspect looking live recordings from record stores, as many of these releases are shared freely in many places. We have the hopes of archiving enough material where people can access so many recordings for free that the concept of buying a bootleg live recording from a record store, ebay, etc does not exist.
