MF Doom “Operation Doomsday 2LP Reissue” | Metal Face Records

Operation Doomsday from living legend MF Doom has become a highly prized artifact in modern times, seeing a plethora of reissues that are specially crafted for how good the music content is. Originally released in the late 90′s, Operation Doomsday is a classic and speaks of an era where hip hop began to decline in a way nobody could have seen coming. In May of this year, MF Doom’s imprint Metal Face Records released this album in a 2LP format on grey marble vinyl. Last year there was even an expansive lunchbox style collection of this album that collected b-sides, alternate versions of songs on the album and instrumentals. This years vinyl reissue gives all those dedicated MF Doom fans another chance to own the original record as it was released if it’s not already in their collection.

It’s been interesting tracing the history of this release after the demise of the KMD crew MF was a part of and to see how it still holds up to any hip hop music coming out today. MF Doom is a producer and MC who works extremely well in both mediums and it was with this album that he displayed it all in one album. Featuring sample cuts from The Beatles, Steely Dan, George Duke, Issac Hayes, Roy Ayers, The Spinners and many others, the beats on this album are incredible and pull me in every time while Doom’s sharp skills on the mic never fail to having me grabbing onto every word he rhymes. Not many albums released in the late 90′s have reached legendary status the way this record has and it’s without surprise that it will remain so for years to come.
