Barna Howard “Barna Howard” | Mama Bird Recording Company

Singer songwriter Barna Howard is the newest front runner in a pioneer of musicians that include Bert Jansch, Neil Young, Townes Van Zandt and James Talley among many more. Lush double and triple melodies from the acoustic of Barna Howard resonate over his honest vocal approach. His music pulls from a remembrance of stories from his stomping ground days in a small town outside of St. Louis, Eureka, Missouri to his journey’s through the cities of Chicago, Boston and now Portland. It’s some of the most pure music I have heard all year and reminds me of the first time I had found the sounds of Townes Van Zandt.

His debut self recorded and self titled long player that was released this year is an astonishing beginning from this guitarist, song writer and vocalist. Every sound you hear comes from Barna Howard and all of the music is original compositions. Released on Mama Bird Recording Company, Barna Howard captures the pastoral landscapes of America with a homage to a time far removed from modern technology. It’s music that is full of everyday life for those who have travelled or lived outside of city life. In an age of technology driven and synthetic music, it’s a big treat to get access to artists who make music in this tradition.

The sound captured from the acoustic was done so in a phenomenal job way. Every finger pluck can be heard to its fullest embellishment and the melody, bass and third melodies that are added from the masterful guitar techniques of Barna Howard leave every song in a state of fullness. The sound of Barna Howard’s voice is the final piece to the puzzle and connects the music into a deep lyrical representation of his upbringing through many major cities of in America. Ten songs and a little over thirty minutes, Barna Howard is a charming album that speaks of the human experience in its most honest form.
