Danny Brown “XXX” | Fools Gold Records
This is Anti-clean rap nigga where the green at?
Hailing from Detroit, Danny Brown brings his raunchy honest grime at full speed on XXX. It’s a fantastic listen, fueled from Eazy-E reminders to Ghetto Boys to even some chops that touch on N.W.A. This is of course the beats, his rhymes are something else, Ol’ Dirty definitely comes to mind.
His dirty “I don’t give a shit” attitude that spits through his teeth (and the missing one’s too) is a harmonic romp laced with shrooms, Xanax, weed and crack smoke. All the while Mr. Brown admits his defeat to such chemicals (listen to opener XXX below). Turning to these drugs, now these drugs turned my life and it’s the downward spiral, got me suicidal –From XXX.
He has no shame in any regard whatsoever and on XXX, his soul transmits itself through chopped beats and booming bass. There is no hesitation, in fact, “Radio Song” even cries out explanations of our current situation with radio play and how quality of music isn’t normally exposed. The very fact that spilling guts is no longer considered “popular music” is kind of sad. Instead, there are formats to fill. This places ones own vision in a cheese grater just for the “right of passage” onto radio. But Danny Brown doesn’t give a shit. Danny Brown is REAL. The game’s so trendy, that’s why this label fails, cause they don’t care about music, just first week sales.
This is the guy who was told by 50 that he wouldn’t be signed onto his label if he kept wearing skinny jeans. This is the guy who got his teeth knocked out at a KFC. This is the guy who stays true to himself and his heritage (his father was a DJ and had him at 16, showed him Egyptian Lover). Danny Brown is the perfect menace hip-hop needs. Highly recommend this album and anything he’s been on as well.
What the fuck I gotta lie for?
