ARTNIVAL, a new arts event for all ages will be held on July 14 in Downtown Riverside’s Historic White Park. The event is a product of the imagination of Cosme Cordova, founder of Division 9 Gallery in Downtown Riverside. It is co-sponsored by the Riverside Arts Council and City of Riverside Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department.

ARTNIVAL is a step back in time onto the grounds of a carnival near the turn of the last century. It will have all of the games, food, music, colorful tents and performers that one might imagine from a simpler time. But there will be a twist. Rather than winning a balloon or a goldfish, people who play the games will walk away with a piece of original art.

All proceeds will go to the Division 9 Gallery non-profit fund, which seeks to educate the community in arts and traditions, as well as to cultivate up and coming artists.

Cordova describes ARTNIVAL as an event for the entire community that allows people a way of going back to their childhood. “It’s a chance to enjoy a peaceful night with the whole family,” he says. “One of the goals is to introduce the community to local artists as they experience art outside of a traditional museum setting.”

To experience something for the first time is an amazing feeling, in which you can never relive the moment. Become part of ARTNIVAL this Saturday, July 14, 2012. Join us in making this a historic Riverside event.

I still remember the feeling of my first Riverside Arts Walk, Day of the Dead and now ARTNIVAL.
