Trust “TRST” | Arts & Crafts

“TRST” is a glide to Seventh Heaven Goth infused dance until a monster swallows you kind of soundtrack. “TRST” is an incredible album that fuses together the likes of Depeche Mode, New Order (if Ian Curtis was in it) , 80’s English rave, kinky sex parties and alienation.

The soundscape is based on crunched out, fat, reverb driven synthscapes aligned with the melodic, nostalgic falsetto harmonies. The catchy melodies bring together the blackened device that is Trust. The 4/4’s hit hard enough that they wobble around and create a roomy, dungeon-like atmosphere while the vocals entice and bewilder.

It isn’t often that I find a modern, sleek, sexy dance outfit that really reels in a deliciously disturbing sound. Robert Alfons haunting vocals brings together sex and mysterious violence. It is an incredibly cinematic mix as well, and although some reviews suggest the likes of “Crystal Castles”, I honestly would be more inclined to compare them to a sheik post-punk New Order  gone leather and drugged.

This entire album (a little under an hour) is covered in black mesh and opiate induced hypnotic loneliness. Floating into the abyss of a black hole isn’t usually an enjoyable idea. Trust has made this very, very enjoyable.
