Anthony Valadez “Just Visiting” | Plug Research
It’s an experimental lounge/jazz album that you can easily sail away to. Valadez has spun together an interesting array of lounge with minimal tech hip-hop beats all surrounded by things “Sade” could easily be imagined singing to.
The way he has placed together the album feels remarkably natural. The DJ culture has been taking interesting turns lately, and Valadez falls into that category. It is minimal, but precise. A very clean, thoughtful album with vocals that seem to wander on their own around the delicate piano arrangements and sexual drums. Check out “Precious” with Def Sound.
The cast of singers, from “Mar” to “Def Sound” to “Damon Aaron” all fit together as one, unified collective on this album. “Asleep” featuring Anna Wise, is a much a lounge track as it is a nostalgic ambient metamorphosis of jazz with well-crafted blue cloud textures. R&B is used subtly as well. It is almost as soft as the snares and shuffles used throughout.
This album is vapor. It disappears in the air and takes you along with all of its particles. An easy one to get lost in and one that I really enjoyed listening to.
