Vestige Mileposts: Volume One – Asado Coffee Co.

Here at SCV we are absolutely thrilled to bring you a brand new series that will cover all sorts of different spots throughout the country that represent art and the human emotion. Whether it be a diner in the city of Chicago or an art space in downtown Los Angeles; I want this series to bring a more traditional outlook to the culture aspect of our site. That being said, I present to you the Asado Coffee Company that is located right here in the very heart of the Northside of Chicago. Inside this modest little coffee house you’ll find some of the best beans this Earth has to offer. The Asado crew typically gets their beans from a small co-op in Africa. This means that there are bags upon bags of fresh green coffee beans being shipped over the pond right to Chicago, where they are roasted right in front of your eyes and nose, in their huge shiny roaster (Asado is Spanish for roast). As you can see above, one of the options is brew-to-cup via their hand-brewed drip system.

Now pictured above is the CEO of the place, Kevin. Here he is standing with their humongous roaster which is right in the middle of the store for all to see and smell. The cool thing about Kevin is that not only does he care about quality coffee, he cares about the quality of life as well. Not only is he involved with charities of his own interest, for every pound of wholesale beans you purchase from Asado, a percentage goes directly to a charitable donation. Why did I choose to present this brilliant little place from Chicago into our very first Vestige Mileposts series? Simply because the brains of the operation is a good man and his hand-brewing technique along with the handmade drip station is far too ingenious to be unnoticed by our site. We hope this new series finds you well, and if you’re ever in Chicago go to 1432 W. Irving Park Rd. and order a hot one! ~Pouya G.
