Creator Wave Vol 7: Danger
Danger is an artists artist, from esoteric book collecting to advanced systems of collage art, this artist has made a name for himself outside of the conventional means of most artists from this generation. Owner of the Amok / Koma Bookshop on Vermont Ave. and Hollywood Blvd. his work has extended itself into a philosophy as much as it represents the more obvious areas of his works. Normally this would be the part where I would explain my feelings and overall perspective of the artist we are featuring in our Creator Wave series. This time around, I am going to let the artist do most of the explaining along with the art itself. This is some of the craziest and most rewarding art I have seen in a long time, the concepts are out of this world and his technique is out of control for old school collage style work, no fancy programs, just glue, hand cut materials, cosmic knowledge, secret techniques and a dedicated passion for representing the world he sees. Enjoy!
Danger from Los Angeles

Danger (Dan Wininger) Bio:
I am a self taught, hand cut, hand glued collage artist and esoteric bookseller. I have been doing art my whole life, drawing constantly from an early age – later I started getting interested in the Surrealists and Dadaists and the work some had done with collage – I have been making collages seriously for over ten years now and have a ‘special’ gluing and cutting technique that renders the finished image virtually seamless and very flat. These collages are all hand cut out of various magazines and meticulously hand glued to boards – then scanned straight into the computer – using no fancy programs – collage the old fashion way – with more than a nod to the dadaists and surrealists….. in both imagery and technique.
I have been an esoteric book seller for about 15 years and have worked with several underground publishers – Amok Books, Feral House Books and Creation Books – I owned and ran the somewhat infamous Amok / Koma Bookshop on Vermont Ave. and Hollywood Blvd. for years and had another Bookshop after that in downtown Los Angeles called Creation Books (affiliated with the publisher of the same name). I did cover art for the Feral House Book titled: ‘The Carnivals of Life and Death’ – by James Shelby Downard – an Illuminatti / Freemason conspiracy book – in fact Robert Anton Wilson (author of The Illuminatis Trilogy) said of this book: ” The most absurd, the most incredible, the most ridiculous Illuminati Theory of them all.”
Turmoil inside the artist that is apparent in his work reflects the chaos of the outside world of society, church and state he is so critical of – and as an artist with these ‘weapons of mass destruction’ (my scissors and glue) I assault mainstream culture, society, church and state with my personal deconstruction rituals in the form of darkly humorous collages that are misanthropic swipes at this so called civilization and its sacred images and symbols. I have tried to contain a bit of ironic humor – to suggest a glimmer of hope for this planet and the people on it whom I feel so distant from. I have a color series of pieces that I consider more ‘surrealist’ and a black and white series of pieces that I consider my more ‘dada’ style works – I also have a strictly digital series of work that is created by manipulating an old school scanner while scanning the original collage – the end result is a more exploded colorful collage, with barely recognizable random images appearing here and there and an intensified psychedelic coloring. ~ Danger
