RIP MAC: Beastie Boys Previously Unreleased Licensed to Ill Era Single “Desperado” 1988

More rare recordings added to our collection at the soundcloud page, this is a brand new unearthed recording from the Licensed to Ill era from The Beastie Boys! Easily my favorite period from the group, I included the notes below from the member who uploaded this originally to the internet via dimeadozen. ~ Erik Otis

Beastie Boys “Desperado” (previously unreleased track) 1988
Unknown Generation Audio Tape; Computer Hard Drive (CD Wav Editor) 1998; CD-R; Flac (2010).

This song was to be released on the sound track for the Run DMC movie Tougher Than Leather (1988). In the movie, the Beastie Boys are seen on stage performing the track live (not the studio version included in this torrent). However, the track never saw an official release. Why?… because immediately following the conclusion of the 1987 Licensed to Ill world tour the Beastie Boys wanted to the receive the royalty money and tour profits which they were owed. Their label (Def Jam) wanted the band to re-enter the studio and record a sophomore follow-up album and opted to use the money as an incentive to accomplish this. The Beastie Boys decided to cut their losses and instead signed with Capitol records.

In the “Tougher Than Leather” film, they are not actually performing it live – the audio we are hearing is an obviously finished version of the song that they are (badly) lip-synching to – this audio is something I very much want to get my hands on.
